Position Overview:

The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) at TazaMall.com is responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. As a key member of the executive team, the CLO ensures that the company operates within legal frameworks, mitigates risks, manages contracts, and safeguards intellectual property. This role requires expertise in e-commerce laws, business regulations, contract negotiations, and dispute resolution.


Core Responsibilities:

1. Legal Compliance & Regulatory Affairs

  • Ensure TazaMall.com complies with local, national, and international e-commerce regulations.
  • Develop and implement legal policies related to consumer rights, vendor agreements, data privacy, cybersecurity, and financial transactions.
  • Keep up with evolving laws related to marketplaces, online businesses, and digital transactions.

2. Contract Management & Vendor Agreements

  • Draft, review, and negotiate vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure fair terms for vendors and the company, protecting both interests.
  • Work with the Chief Vendor Officer (CVO) to create legally binding vendor policies.

3. Intellectual Property Protection

  • Safeguard TazaMall’s brand, trademarks, patents, copyrights, and proprietary technology.
  • Develop policies to prevent intellectual property theft, counterfeit product listings, and unauthorized reselling.
  • Handle legal disputes related to IP infringement or brand misuse.

4. Risk Management & Dispute Resolution

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations, financial transactions, and vendor/customer interactions.
  • Establish an internal dispute resolution process for conflicts involving vendors, customers, or third parties.
  • Handle consumer complaints, fraud cases, and chargeback disputes.

5. Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Compliance

  • Ensure GDPR, CCPA, and other global data privacy laws compliance.
  • Develop and enforce customer data protection policies in collaboration with the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
  • Implement measures against data breaches, cyber threats, and fraudulent activities.

6. Litigation & External Legal Representation

  • Represent TazaMall in legal proceedings, regulatory hearings, and negotiations.
  • Work with external legal advisors and law firms when necessary.
  • Develop legal defense strategies in case of lawsuits, regulatory actions, or compliance challenges.

7. Corporate Governance & Ethics

  • Establish strong corporate governance frameworks, ensuring transparency and legal accountability.
  • Develop ethics policies, whistleblower protection mechanisms, and fair business practices.
  • Ensure board and executive decisions comply with legal standards.

8. Employment & Labor Law Compliance

  • Work closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to ensure labor law compliance, employee contracts, and workplace policies.
  • Address legal issues related to hiring, terminations, employee benefits, and workplace disputes.

Key Skills & Qualifications

1. Legal Expertise & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of corporate law, e-commerce regulations, digital transactions, and international trade laws.
  • Experience handling commercial contracts, vendor agreements, and intellectual property rights.

2. Risk Management & Dispute Resolution

  • Expertise in identifying and mitigating legal risks in business operations.
  • Strong background in handling disputes, lawsuits, and regulatory investigations.

3. Strong Negotiation & Communication Skills

  • Ability to negotiate contracts, settlements, and compliance terms with vendors, customers, and partners.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate complex legal jargon into actionable business advice.

4. Cybersecurity & Data Protection Awareness

  • Knowledge of data privacy laws, cybersecurity threats, and fraud prevention strategies.
  • Experience in working with IT teams to develop security policies.

5. Educational & Experience Requirements

  • Law degree (LLB or JD) with specialization in corporate law, e-commerce law, or business regulations.
  • 10+ years of experience in legal roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position.
  • Previous experience working with technology, e-commerce, or digital platforms is preferred.
